Email Authentication Configuration Required

E-MAIL AUTHENTICATION SETUP

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Tthe E-mail Services (POP3) provided by Earthwave will be upgraded to require secure authentication. This will affect what settings customers need to use when accessing their e-mail with POP3 e-mail client/desktop software such as Microsoft Outlook or Eudora.

What do I need to do?

If you access your mail through a POP3 e-mail client/desktop software program (such as Microsoft Outlook or Eudora), you will need to update the settings in your e-mail client/desktop software prior to the upgrade on to ensure uninterrupted e-mail service.

NOTE: Customers who access their e-mail ONLY through a Web browser (such as Microsoft Internet Explorer) are not affected.

What updates do I need to make?

The updates you need to make depend on the type of e-mail client/desktop software program you are using. Find the type of client/desktop e-mail software you are using from the list below and follow those explicit instructions.

Microsoft Outlook 2003
Microsoft Outlook 2000
Microsoft Outlook Express
Microsoft Outlook XP
Eudora 6.x
Entourage

For Microsoft Outlook 2003:

  1. Start your Microsoft Outlook 2003 client/desktop software
  2. Click "Tools" from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Select "E-mail Accounts" from the drop down menu.
  3. From the E-Mail section, select the option button next to "View or change existing e-mail accounts." Click the "Next" button.
  4. Highlight your E-Mail account and then click the "Change" button.
  5. Under the "Logon Information" section, type your full e-mail address (example: user@example.com) in the text field next to User Name. Click "More Settings..." to proceed to the next step.
  6. Click the "Outgoing Server" tab then click on the checkbox next to the description "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication." By default, the option button next to "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" should be selected. If it is not selected, please select it by clicking on the option button. Once completed please click the "OK" button.
  7. Click the "Next" button then click "Finish."

For Microsoft Outlook 2000:

  1. Start your Microsoft Outlook 2000 client/desktop software
  2. Click "Tools" from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Select "Services" from the drop down menu.
  3. Highlight your e-mail account, then click the "Properties" button.
  4. Click on the "Servers" tab and click on the checkbox next to the description "My server requires authentication." Click on the "Settings..." button to proceed to next step.
  5. By default, the option button next to the description "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" should be selected. If it is not selected, please select it by clicking on the option button. Once completed please click the "OK" button.
  6. Click the "OK" buttons to close the settings windows.

For Microsoft Outlook Express:

  1. Start your Microsoft Outlook Express 6.x client/desktop software
  2. Click "Tools" from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Select "Accounts" from the drop down menu.
  3. Click on the "Mail" tab then highlight your e-mail account. Click the "Properties" button.
  4. Click on the "Servers" tab and click on the checkbox next to the description "My server requires authentication." Click on the "Settings..." button to proceed to next step.
  5. By default, the option button next to the description "Use same settings as my incoming mail server" should be selected. If it is not selected, please select it by clicking on the option button. Once completed please click the "OK" button.
  6. Click the "OK" buttons, and then click "Close."

For Microsoft Outlook XP:

  1. Start your Microsoft Outlook XP client/desktop software
  2. Click "Tools" from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Select "e-mail Accounts" from the drop down menu.
  3. From the e-Mail section, select the option button next to "View or change existing e-mail account." Click the "Next" button.
  4. Highlight your e-Mail account and then click the "Change" button.

  1. Start your Eudora 6.x client/desktop software
  2. Click "Tools" from the menu bar at the top of the screen. Select "Options..." from the drop down menu.
  3. Click on the "Sending Mail" category then click on the checkbox next to the description "Allow authentication." Click the "OK" button.

For Entourage:

  1. Open your Entourage client/desktop software.
  2. Select "Accounts" from the "Tools" menu.
  3. Select your e-mail account from the list and click the "Edit" button.
  4. Click the button labeled "Click here for advanced sending options" under "Sending Mail" at the bottom.
  5. Place a check in the box labeled "SMTP server requires authentication."
  6. Select "Log on using" and type your full e-mail address (example: user@example.com) into the "Account ID:" field and your e-mail password into the "Password:" field. Close the "advanced sending options" dialog box.
  7. Click "OK."
